Serves: 4

Recipe Ingredients
300ml red wine;
1 tbsp redcurrant sauce;
50g caster sugar;
1 cinnamon stick, broken;
5 cloves;
300ml water;
4 pears.

Recipe Method
Put the wine, redcurrant sauce, sugar and spices into a small saucepan. Add the water and bring to the boil.

Peel the pears but leave the stalks in place. Place in the red wine syrup and simmer gently for 20 minutes or until tender. Remove from the heat and leave to cool. Chill for at least an hour but no longer than 5 hours.

Remove the pears from the syrup 20 minutes before serving. Pour the syrup into a saucepan and boil for 20 minutes to thicken it. Serve with the pears.
