| Preperation time: 10 mins Cooking time: 2 hours Serves: 8 |
| Recipe Ingredients |
| 75g black treacle; 225g strong wholemeal flour, sifted; 75g currants; 225ml milk; 1/2 tsp salt; 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda. |
| Recipe Method |
| Put the flour, currants, bicarbonate of soda and
salt in a large bowl, mix and make a well. Add the milk and treacle and mix well. Pour mixture into a greased 450g loaf tin. Cover with foil (but not too tight so the bread cant rise). Put the loaf tin on a deep baking tray and add boiling water to the tray until the water is halfway up the loaf tin. Cook for 2 hours at about 170c. Allow to cool before removing the bread from the loaf tin. |
